What it means
The inverter is not communicating with the monitoring system (datalogger, SCADA, cloud portal). Loss of production data and inability to monitor remotely. Possible issues on RS485 bus, Modbus TCP/IP, or logger connection.
Probable causes
- Incorrect RS485 wiring: A/B polarity reversed or missing termination resistor (120 ohm).
- Modbus TCP timeout due to wrong IP address, network conflict, or damaged Ethernet cable.
- Datalogger (e.g. Huawei SmartLogger, SMA Data Manager) faulty or with outdated firmware.
- Electromagnetic interference on the RS485 bus due to proximity to power cables.
- Inverter communication port damaged by lightning strike.
Where to start
Check the communication type in use: RS485 or Ethernet (Modbus TCP). Which protocol is in use?
