- Domain
- MV_SUBSTATION_SYSTEM
- Reference standard
- CEI 64-8 / IEC 61439-2
What it means
Overheated connections or busbars in the boards: progressive degradation with fire and outage risk. Detectable almost only with thermography under load.
Probable causes
- Terminations not re-torqued after years of service
- Oxidation and rising contact resistance
- Phase balance worsened after load additions
- uninspected busway joints and tap-offs
Where to start
With a thermal camera under load: locate the hot spot and compare with peer points (differences above 15-20 K on connections mean intervention).
