- WARNING
- Domain
- PLC
- Reference standard
- IEC 61131-2
- Product / context
- AI 8x Isolated — Modicon M340
What it means
An analog channel on the PLC reads a full-scale value (e.g., 32767 or 27648 for Siemens, i.e., > 20mA / > 10V) or an underflow/overflow value. This typically indicates a problem with the 4-20mA transmitter wiring or the temperature sensor (PT100, thermocouple).
Probable causes
- Transmitter cable broken (4-20mA loop open -- reads 0mA or overflow).
- Transmitter not powered or faulty.
- Channel configuration incorrect (range, measurement type, resolution) in the PLC software.
- Analog cable shielding not connected or connected on both sides (EMC interference).
Where to start
Check the module diagnostics to determine if the channel is in overflow (value > full scale) or underflow (value < range start, e.g., < 4mA). What is the condition?
